Hovering
by Nathanael O'Reilly

A hummingbird hovers
outside my window
inches from the glass
eyes level we observe
each other for a long minute
before the hummingbird
returns to the flower
on the trumpet vine
hovering and imbibing
beside the fattening bees
as rain drips from the eaves
slides down leaves
