Same Difference
by Winston Derden

Folder obscuring one side,
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ then the other,

this workshop on self-awareness,
this exercise in bearing secrets to the public,
reveals an oddity common to us all:
the asymmetry of our bisymmetrical faces,

uncovers the squint, the angle, the size of eyes,
the uneven line and bush of brow,
the curve of nose, the mismatched height of ears,
their propensity to unscroll florally;
the line, the weight, the bulge of jaw
that unhinges our propensity to assume

one side of us is the same as the other.
