Canoe Beached

Like a prehistoric bone awaiting discovery
the canoe lies beached on shore
until once again mud gravity consumes it
until a hundred-year storm surge
resurrects its remains like a toad
emerging from winter’s frozen hibernation
to once again croak across the river.
