Muscle must aid bone
for the left foot to find strength,
the once-cracked web bear weight
instead of shifting pressure to the big toe,

to be referred back again,
spurring deep-strained ankle ligaments
to flex away stiffness
and transfer movement evenly,

so the knee is not jammed
with the force of a stride,
and recoiling, shunt
the load to the right hip,

driving the ball into the socket,
hobbling the motion machine.
