Snow Women
by Mary Ann Meade

I push snow, back to the trench in the road,
the snow drifting but I keep, keep to the task,
my hands stiff from the weight of the snow,
the neighbor shouting "Have you gone mad,"

snow woman after snow woman looking out
from the shallow trench in the road,
and I thinking which woman has my face,
which one did I make in the likeness of,

and will the snow women keep, keep
to the task of being still
and wait, just wait for no one,
till morning, the neighbor walking alone.
