Forgetting My Guard

Hair falls to my feet. It grows
as soon as it is removed, until finally,
my child is as bald as he never was
at birth. Autism has been shaved,
and he is smiling the smile
of one not cursed. We are
so fortunate, we forget
what it is like to trip over nothing
and lose our way home
