The Landlord’s Husband
by Mark Danowsky

The landlord's husband is downstairs
blasting Christian rock

Ha-le-lu-jah______Ha-le-lu-jah
Ha-le-lu-jah______Ha-le-lu-jah

The words repeat as I pass by
back from a dog walk

I see him on his knees
priming the stained white walls

the apartment of a long time tenant
evicted last week
