Mecom Fountain, Museum District, Houston, TX
Graceful as ballerinas
yet big as lions and bears,
they skittered across the grounds
of the Museum of Natural Science,
somersaulted over the curb,
and plowed cloud-like into the grills
and windshields of SUVs
sans leaving a single dent or crack.
They divided into smaller versions
of themselves, leaping into the air
and hanging there for seconds
before landing to leap again.
Those beasts of bubbles
stopped traffic for blocks,
invading the cityscape,
fresh from fountains
teeming with the suds
of Tide and Cheer.
