Blade Smith
by Marcelle Kasprowicz

Did the steel of your words
fail to rise from cost-cutting
to high-carbon steel

Did you fail to heat the metal
to its peak emotional high
before placing it
on the anvil of the page
before hammering it
into its lasting form

Did you fail to respect
the ethereal purity
of the clean curve
the flat edge

You failed to draw blood
Know the cut of a poet's sword
must never be allowed to heal
