Miniature Paratroopers
by Kevin Ridgeway

you could get them at Thrifty Drug,
four for a quarter and in different colors that
you could see through the grass on the front
lawn we hunted them in from baby fat fisted
throws and hiding from the enemy in an endless
jungle without miniature plastic machine guns to
protect them in their tangled parachutes before
they were all executed with mom's cigarette lighter
before we asked her for more quarters to buy
future casualties in a toy war that had no
plastic winners, only plastic losers.
